Description

This is a detached cart shed dating from the 18th century, located 30 metres east-north-east of the Church of St Mary in Maiden Newton. The shed features walls made of chalk-block and flint, which are banded and lined with chalk-block on the inside. It has a half-hipped thatch roof. The structure consists of four bays supported by three haunched wooden posts set on stone bases. Inside, there are stop-chamfered tie-beams and cambered collars, with butted purlins and tusk-tenoned joints. The pole rafters are visible, and there are loft doors in each gable.
