Unitarian Chapel SY 4692 1/65 21.11.50.

II* GV

    1. Colour washed brick. Hipped slate roof, 2 storeys. Band with "Unitarian Chapel" in contemporary cerifed lettering. Moulded eaves cornice. 3 ranges round arched sashes with glazing bars. Doors with oblong fanlight and semi-circular bowed portico on Ionic columns with full entablature. Elevation to Rax Lane was built as a school in 1840. 3 storeys. 3 ranges of casements with glazing bars. 2 sashes with glazing bars on ground floor. Other ground floor windows have ornamental iron grilles. Interior of chapel. Galleries on 3 sides taken on columns with high bases, marbled shafts and Composite capitals. Full entablature with dentilled cornice. Parapet with principal muntins fluted. Ornamental iron balustrades dividing off corners of galleries. Pulpit with fluted pilasters at corners and moulded cornice. Steps and communion rail are mid C19.

Nos 37 to 47 (odd) the Unitarian Chapel, the Public Library, and Nos 53 to 57 (odd) form a group.
