Description
The Perle School of Dancing, formerly known as the Lyric Cinema, is located at No. 9 Barrack Street. This building was rebuilt in 1777 and originally served as an Independent Chapel when the Independents separated from the Unitarians in 1746. Since the establishment of the Independent (now United Reformed) Church in 1859, it has functioned as a Temperance Hall, the Liberal Hall, and the Electric Palace Cinema.
The structure features hammer-dressed stone and has a slate roof with one hipped gable. It is adorned with a modillion eaves cornice and includes a round-headed doorway with a round-headed window above it. There is a tablet engraved with "Liberal Club 1886" above the lower part of the window, and round-headed windows are located on each side of the entrance.
