Description
The Congregational Chapel, founded in 1689 and rebuilt in 1815, has undergone restorations in 1866 and 1963. It features stone walls that are rendered and an asbestos slate roof with a pedimented gable facing the street. The north elevation is two storeys high and two windows wide, with round-headed wooden window frames that have Y tracery. The windows contain small lozenge leaded panes with green and yellow rippled stained glass. The main entrance is centrally located and consists of a two-leaf round-headed door with a Y tracery fanlight above, along with a six-panel door and panelled jambs. The east wall is buttressed, and both the east and west walls have round-headed windows. Inside, the chapel is plain, featuring a gallery supported by four slim iron columns at the north end. At the south end, there are reeded wooden pilasters and an arch with plain imposts. The reading desk, made of wood, has a convex panelled front and dates from the early 19th century. There are also two memorial tablets on the north wall.
