Description

The garden temple, located 130 meters east-south-east of Kingston Maurward House, dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick with an ashlar stone frontage, and its roof is concealed behind a parapet. The front features a portico supported by two Tuscan columns, which hold up an entablature and pediment. Curved ashlar wing walls flank the portico, with the entablature extending along these walls and finishing in rectangular piers, where the cornice wraps around. Each wing wall contains a round-headed niche. The plinth of the wing walls aligns with the bases of the columns. A flight of five moulded stone steps, flanked by solid balustrade walls, leads up to the portico. At the rear of the portico, there are a pair of moulded panelled doors, which are framed by a moulded architrave, a frieze, and a simple moulded cornice supported by consoles at either end.
