Description
Withyhook Farm House is a detached house that incorporates a former watermill at its right end. It dates from the mid-16th century and has been altered in the 17th and 18th centuries. The building features rubble stone walls and a slate roof, with one brick stack at the left end and another to the right of the center, located at the end of the original house section. The house is two storeys tall and has a 20th-century stone porch with a lean-to slate roof and a 20th-century ledged door. To the right of the porch, there are two additional door openings: one at the right end of the original house, which has an old ledged door and frame from the 17th century, and another leading into the former mill, which features a 20th-century part-glazed door in its original opening.
On the ground floor, there is a four-light timber window with ovolo-moulded mullions and a casement window with horizontal glazing bars. The rear wing contains some stone-mullioned windows. Inside, the left ground floor room has a stone fireplace with a four-centred arch and some chamfered ceiling beams. The right ground floor room of the original house features a large open fireplace with a cambered timber lintel and timber jambs, along with a newel stair that adjoins this room, which also has some chamfered ceiling beams. No mill machinery survives in the building. At the right end, there is a single-storey extension made of stone with a slate roof, which is now used as a garage.
