Description
Gage's Mill is a former mill that has been converted into a house. It is believed to date from the 17th century but underwent significant remodeling in the 18th century. The building is constructed of painted stone rubble and features a hipped slated roof, with a rendered chimney on the left side wall. It has a double-depth layout with a stone cross wall and a lean-to addition on the left side. The structure is two storeys high and four windows wide, with an additional window in the lean-to. The doorway, located in the second bay from the right, along with the two left-hand windows on each storey, has tall, well-cut voussoirs. The other windows feature segmental brick arches. The ground storey windows have barred sashes, with six panes at the right-hand end and three panes (with two vertical glazing bars) in the upper storey. Similar casements are found in the rear and left side walls, while the rear has eight-paned sashes in the upper storey. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to have been considerably altered. A description from 1973 mentions a chamfered beam with stops and a wide stone fireplace. A stream runs under the house, but no machinery remains. The owner indicates that it was originally a fulling mill.
