Description
The King's Head Hotel is a building with origins in the 18th century that has been altered in the 19th century. The elevation facing The Square features walls that were refaced around 1840 and has a roof concealed behind a parapet. It has brick stacks and stands three storeys tall. The ground floor includes a projecting porch in a classical style, with four segmental-headed double hung sash windows separated by projecting pilasters. There is a moulded string course at the first floor level. Above this, the first and second floors are divided into five bays by full-height pilasters, with five double hung sash windows on each floor, featuring classical surrounds. The first-floor windows have pedimented heads. The elevation facing West Street has brick walls and double hung sash windows on all three floors. A large arched opening leading to the rear courtyard has a semi-circular arch on rendered piers. The interior has been significantly altered. The building is included for its group value.
