Description

This is a terrace of six cottages, with a pump, dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, situated on the south side of High Street, Langton Matravers, Dorset. The cottages are constructed of rubble stone with stone slate roofs. Nos. 61 and 63 share a brick stack, and No. 65 has a stone end stack.

Architecturally, the cottages display variations in window types and detailing. No. 61 has a ledged door and a single fixed window with glazing bars on the ground floor, beneath a stone arch. Above are two pivoted windows with glazing bars. No. 63, named Speedwell, features a 20th-century part-glazed door under a stone arch and two horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars, also under stone arches. The first floor mirrors this with two pivoted windows with glazing bars. No. 65, Rabymere, has a casement window with glazing bars and shutters on the ground floor, protected by a stone arch, and two casement windows with glazing bars above. No. 67 is double fronted and has stone end stacks. It features a door with a small glass panel and two sash windows with a central glazing bar on each floor, the ground floor windows set within stone arches. No. 69 shares a brick stack with No. 71. It has a part-glazed panelled door, a top-hung window with glazing bars and shutters on the ground floor, and a casement window with glazing bars above. No. 71 is of two builds; the earlier left section has a sash window with a central glazing bar and a fixed window on the ground floor, and a pent-roofed dormer with casements in the attic. The later, right section has an asbestos tiled roof and a glazed door, with a sash window with a central glazing bar on the ground floor and a matching pent-roofed dormer in the attic.

A cast iron pump stands in front of No. 71.
