Description

SW 63 SW CROWAN

4/114 Pengelly Farmhouse -

GV II

Farmhouse. C17, remodelled and extended circa early C19. Granite rubble walls with dressed granite quoins, jambstones and lintels. Scantle slate roof with granite coped gable end with ovolo moulded kneelers. Large granite chimney over left hand gable, rendered chimney over right gable and brick chimney serving outshut behind with reused copings behind the chimney. 2 room plan originally with through passage between, hall/kitchen left and smaller parlour right. In the C19 the eaves were heightened and a single storey outshut providing 2 service rooms was added at the rear, presumably a pantry left and back kitchen on the right. 2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3 window front. Doorway and window over slightly right of middle. C20 door and lean-to conservatory/porch. 4-pane horned sashes in C19 remodelled openings. The ground floor right hand window opening has a C17 chawmred jambstone in situ (right) with a chamfered 2-light mullioned window head inter the opening. Interior not inspected. A rare small C17 house in this area and the surviving C17 features indicate that, though small, it was well detailed.
