Description

White Cottage is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with its eaves heightened in the 19th century. It is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings and features a concrete tile roof. An original granite chimney is located over the left-hand gable end, while a rear lean-to has a scantle slate roof and a brick chimney over the right-hand gable end.

The original layout consisted of two rooms: a larger hall or kitchen on the left and a parlour on the right, connected by a cross or through passage. There is a 19th-century lean-to at the rear middle and left.

The east front is nearly symmetrical with three windows. The doorway is centrally located relative to the windows, which are all slightly shifted to the right. A gable-ended stone porch with a scantle slate roof stands in front of the doorway. The original 17th-century openings on the ground floor are chamfered, although the cills of the windows have been lowered and the central mullions removed. The first-floor openings were altered in the 19th century but still incorporate some 17th-century window masonry. The door is from the 20th century, and the windows are horned sashes from the late 19th or 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
