Description
The sea wall in St Mawes was built in 1859 through public subscription. It is constructed from local slate rubble, with some sections vertically coursed, and features granite dressings and rounded coping. The wall serves as a battered retaining structure that supports Marine Parade and Lower Castle Road, rising from the beach and following the shoreline. It is taller at the west end, where there is a slipway, and includes steps near the east end as well as cantilevered steps at the center. In 1999, part of the wall at the west end was rebuilt after a collapse, and in the 1980s, part of the base was reinforced with concrete.
