Description
Bay Cottage is a group of three houses, originally built as two, dating to the 18th century and remodelled around the early 20th century in a cottage ornée style. The exterior is pebbledash over rubble and cob walls, with a wheat reed thatched roof featuring two raking dormer gables and brick gables. Originally, the two houses were similar in design, each with two rooms and a single-depth cross passage plan. The right-hand house has been divided into two cottages. The front facade has five windows, initially designed as a nearly symmetrical two-window arrangement with a central doorway; this has been altered with a thatched bay window to the left and a doorway slightly to the right featuring a domed thatched roof supported by granite posts. A similar bay window has been installed in the original doorway position of the left-hand house. All windows feature leaded glazing from the early 20th century, with some coloured glass incorporated. A possible medieval fragment, reportedly of Saint Anthony, is included in the coloured glass of the right bay window. The interior was altered in the early 20th century.
