Description
This is a circa mid-19th century barn situated 25 metres to the southwest of Bennacott Farmhouse, on the southwest side of the settlement at Bennacott. It originally comprised a shippon with a threshing floor above. The barn is constructed of stone rubble with granite and ashlar slate stone dressings. It has a rag slate roof with gable ends. The plan is rectangular, likely with a shippon on the ground floor and a threshing floor with opposing doors on the first floor. The exterior is two storeys and the front elevation is asymmetrical but regular. It features a partly blocked opening to the left of centre, with a granite shouldered arch. Further partly blocked openings are present to the left, and a small 20th century lean-to extension is on the right. The first floor has a large double door with a slate hood to the left of centre, and smaller window openings to the right and left. The interior was not inspected. The barn forms part of a group with Bennacott Farmhouse.
