Description
This is a farmhouse dating from the 1840s to the 1860s, situated on the north-east side of the settlement at North Beer. It is constructed from stone rubble with brick dressings, and has a slate roof with hipped ends. Brick end stacks are rendered. The house was originally planned with two rooms running along its depth, featuring a central entrance passage which contains a staircase and lobby. The layout includes principal rooms to the front and, to the rear, a dairy to the left and a kitchen to the right.
The exterior presents a symmetrical three-window front. A timber porch with incised pilasters and diagonal glazing bars stands centrally, sheltering a 19th-century panelled door. Two sixteen-pane hornless sash windows are on the ground floor, with matching windows above, and a central twelve-pane sash window on the upper floor. The window openings are dressed with brick, featuring segmental brick arches.
The interior is largely original. A 19th-century staircase has turned newels, stick balusters, and a ramped moulded handrail. A painted chimney-piece made from Delabole slate is found in the room on the right.
