Description

Meryton House is a house dating to circa 1750, with later alterations. It is constructed of rendered rubble with a slate roof. The house has a double-depth plan, with the entrance positioned to the right and a single room on the left. The building is three storeys high with a basement, and has two windows to the front. These are 12-pane sash windows, set above a plinth. A flight of two steps leads to the front door, which is a 6-panelled door with a reeded frieze and decorative fanlight, and is protected by 20th-century railings. To the lower level on the right is a blocked cellar entrance, featuring a segmented sandstone head with projecting keystone, into which a 20th-century light has been inserted. A band course runs between the ground and first floors. All windows to the rear are 20th-century replacements. The interior has been substantially altered in the 20th century.
