Description

Algoma is a house dating to around 1750, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The house is constructed of rubble, with a brick front, and has an asbestos slate roof with a gable end stack on the left. It follows a double-depth plan, featuring a front room on the left, an entrance hall to the right, and a stairwell to the rear left. A two-storey service wing is situated to the rear right, extending to both cellar and ground floor levels.

The house is three storeys high and has a single window, which is a 20th-century sash window. To the right of the entrance is a 10-panelled door, sheltered by a hood supported on scrolled brackets with a Vitruvian scroll cornice. Cill bands are present at both the first and second floors. A cobbled area, approximately 2 metres deep, lies in front of the house.

Inside, the entrance hall features a segmental arch with pilasters. The stair hall contains a dog-leg staircase with a wreathed handrail and stick balusters, along with a scroll-moulded string. The rear room on the ground floor has a coloured marble chimney-piece, along with cupboards to the left and right with panelled lower doors, panelled shutters, and a soffit to the window. The first-floor landing has a cupboard with glazed doors, H hinges, and fretwork cornice. The rear room on the first floor has a blocked fireplace with dentils below a moulded mantel. On the second floor, the rear room features a two-panelled door and a fireplace with a moulded mantel, while the front room has a fireplace with dentils below a moulded mantel and panelled cupboards to the left and right.
