Description
Teal House and the adjoining houses at 32 and 36 The Saltings are a terrace of three similar townhouses built in the early 19th century. The buildings have been rendered, replacing the original stucco on rubble, and feature mid-floor strings and a dry slate roof. No.36 has a cast-iron ogee gutter. The terrace has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with an overall five-window range.
No.32 has a one-window range and late 19th-century four-pane horned sash windows, except for the first floor which has an older four-pane hornless sash. No.34 retains its original hornless sashes with glazing bars. No.36 features 20th-century four-pane horned sashes. All three houses have original doorways with moulded architraves and brackets supporting a moulded cornice, panelled reveals, and plain overlights above six-panel doors.
Inside, No.34 preserves many original features, including an open-well stair with a curved landing balustrade, a moulded and carved ceiling cornice in the front room, and panelled doors. The interiors of the other houses have not been inspected but are likely to contain interesting features as well.
