Description

Fonston Cottage and the adjoining outbuilding to the front right are small structures, likely built in the early 18th century. They are made of rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, topped with a rag slate roof that has a half-hipped end on the left and a gable end on the right. The end stack on the right has been rebuilt in brick.

The layout consists of a two-room plan with a through passage, featuring an entrance to the left of center. The larger room on the right serves as a hall-kitchen, heated by the end stack, while the smaller room on the left is unheated. A porch from the 19th century has been added to the front, along with a 20th-century extension at the rear. There is also a 19th-century outbuilding located at the front right.

The exterior is two stories high and presents an asymmetrical front with two windows, both featuring complete 19th-century casements. The gabled stone rubble porch, dating from the 19th century, has a plank door to the left of center, flanked by two 2-light casements. On the first floor, there are two similar casements placed asymmetrically. A 20th-century garage has been added to the left side, while the 19th-century wall and outbuilding to the front right are made of rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, with a lean-to slate roof. The outbuilding contains a 19th-century 3-light casement.

Inside, the property remains unaltered. The entrance leads directly into the larger room on the right, with a partition on the left and a 20th-century fireplace.
