Description
Knapinelake is a house that likely dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, topped with a rag slate roof that has a half-hipped end on the left and a gable end on the right. There is a lower range on the far right with a slate roof featuring gable ends. The house has a brick shaft for a rear lateral stack, which has been incorporated into a later service outshut at the back, and another brick shaft for an end stack, which is part of a later extension on the right side.
The layout consists of a two-room and cross or through passage plan, with the left room heated by the rear lateral stack and the right room heated by the end stack. The house was extended around the 19th century with an outshut across the rear and a one-room plan extension on the lower right side added in the later 19th century.
The exterior is two storeys high and features an asymmetrical window arrangement with three windows on the left and one on the right. The main range on the left has a nearly symmetrical front, with a 19th-century door set in a lean-to porch made of stone rubble and topped with a slate lean-to roof. This porch is flanked by two 19th-century three-light casements. On the first floor, there are three 20th-century two-light casements. The later range on the right also has two storeys, featuring a 20th-century two-light casement on the ground floor and a 19th-century two-light casement on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
