Description

Tredown is a farmhouse that has been converted into a private house, dating from around the mid-17th century. It is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble, topped with a rag slate roof featuring gable ends and brick chimney stacks at each end. The layout consists of a two-room plan with a cross passage, where the larger room is on the right side. Both rooms are heated by end stacks, and there is a kitchen wing at the rear right that is likely a slightly later addition, also heated by an end stack. The left gable end was rebuilt in the late 20th century, and a small service outshut was added to the rear left during the same period, replacing an earlier outshut.

The exterior is two storeys high and features an almost symmetrical three-window front. On the ground floor, two 19th-century three-light casements flank a panelled door from the early 19th century, which is set within a stone rubble gabled porch from the 19th century. A slate string course runs above the ground floor openings. On the first floor, there are two 19th-century three-light casements flanking a 19th-century two-light casement.

Inside, the ceiling beams have been replaced and the fireplaces altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The roof structure of the front range dates from the late 17th or early 18th century, although the truss on the left side was replaced when the end wall was rebuilt in the 20th century. The roof structure of the rear wing has not been inspected.
