Description

MAWGAN-IN-MENEAGE SW 72 SW 4/129 Building at approx. 2m south west - of Gilly Farmhouse GV II

Outbuilding, possibly granary over stable. Probably late C18. Cob walls. Half hipped corrugated iron roof, originally thatched. Rectangular nearly square single cell plan with entrance and window to north side only. Two storeys. Roughly north front with doorway, left and window right. Old stable type ledged door in 2 parts. Old reused fixed light casement in reduced window opening. Interior not inspected but structurally likely to be complete. The way this building is orientated irregularly with Gilly Farmhouse qv. suggests that it may be older and perhaps there was an earlier house roughly on the site of the present farmhouse. Though simple, the grouping of this building, the farmhouse and the garden walls is important and they complement one another.
