Description
No. 5, Halliggye is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from grouted Serpentine and elvan rubble with granite dressings. The roof is a three-quarter hipped design made of grouted scantle slate, featuring brick chimneys on either side. The building has a double depth plan with two main front rooms, the larger one on the left, and a cross passage leading to a central stair that connects to slightly shallower rear service rooms.
The house is two storeys high and has a nearly symmetrical north front with three windows. The doorway, located to the right of the middle window, features a six-panel door set within a 20th-century glazed conservatory or porch. The original windows are 16-pane hornless sashes. The interior, which has been partly inspected, appears to have changed little since the 19th century, retaining original joinery including a dog-leg stair, although the chimney piece in the right-hand room has been replaced.
