Description

The granary at Chybilly Farm in Mawgan-in-Meneage is likely from the early 19th century. It features a timber frame, with parts covered in slate and others rendered. The roof is hipped and made of Delabole slate, laid in a diamond pattern, with projecting eaves and originally had a coved cornice. The building has a rectangular plan supported by staddle stones and measures three bays long and two bays wide.

The south-west side, which faces the weather, has dome-headed granite staddle stones on tall straight shafts and two glazed two-light casements. The north-east side has similar openings, but the left-hand window is louvered. It is believed that all window openings were originally louvered and had internal wooden shutters.

On the left-hand (north-west) side, there is a central window, while the opposite short side has a central doorway with a two-panel door. The slate-hanging and render are partly fallen. Inside, the structure is close-boarded in elm, and the entire construction is nailed together. Granaries are rare in West Cornwall, and this one is of particular interest despite its damaged condition.
