Description
No. 3 Halliggye is a house dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of serpentine and elvan rubble, with some cob at the rear, and features slate sills and granite lintels. The thatched roof is wheatreed and sweeps low over an integral rear outshut. There is a rendered brick chimney on the left gable end and an axial brick chimney over the cross party wall with No. 4. The house has a double depth plan with an integral rear outshut, consisting of a larger kitchen/living room on the left, a parlour on the right, and a nearly central former cross passage leading to a central stair within the outshut, with service rooms on either side.
The building is two storeys high and has an almost symmetrical east front with two windows, plus one window to the right that belongs to the rear wing of No. 4. The windows are 20th-century two-light casements, and there is a 20th-century door in an ovolo moulded frame. The rear features two small ground floor window openings with wooden lintels above and 20th-century windows. The stair window, tucked under the eaves, is likely an original 12-pane two-light casement. There is a bread oven projection on the left gable end. Inside, there is a large fireplace in the left part of the house, along with some 20th-century remodelling and renewal of floors and stairs. It is said that there are some two-panel doors upstairs, although the first floor has not been seen.
