Description

There are two headstones located 4 and 5 meters to the north of the north aisle of the Church of St Nonna in Pelynt. They date from 1791 and 1793 and commemorate Jane May and her husband, John Tregenna, who was late of Muchlarnick and whose wife Mary died in 1799. Both headstones are made of slate and feature a nowy-head design. The inscription on Jane May's headstone is in lower case serifs and includes a verse that reads: "Farewell vain world in Thee My time is Past Twas God decreed this Day to be my last Let none lament for surely tis in Vain I die in Hopes with Christ to live again." The headstone for John Tregenna has a similar inscription style and includes the verse: "In mutual love they liv'd and so they dy'd Beneath this stone, They here lie side by side Their mourning offspring seven Children dear Do o'er their Heads this grateful Tribute Rear."
