Description
This barn, located about 10 metres south of Treduan Farmhouse, is likely from the late 17th century to early 18th century and may have originally served as a cider house. It is constructed from slatestone rubble and features a hipped roof covered with slurried slate and ridge tiles, with several handmade crested ridge tiles still intact.
The barn has entrances at both the front and rear. A mid-19th century addition on the rear left creates an overall L-plan shape. The front includes a midstrey with a pitched roof, a single door with a timber lintel, a buttress on the left, and another door on the right. Below the eaves, there is a row of square pigeon holes with slate cills. Ventilation slits are present to the right and left of the midstrey, while the right end of the barn is blind. The left end features a door with a ventilation slit leading to the loft above. There is a straight joint where the 19th century addition connects on the left, which also has a hipped slurried slate roof with ridge tiles.
The 19th century block includes a central wide doorway with a banded cambered head, as well as narrower doorways on either side, also with cambered heads. An off-centre loading door is located to the left. At the rear of the main barn, there is a central door with a 20th century lintel, and the rear of the 19th century addition has an external stone stair leading to the upper loading door. The interior has not been inspected.
