Description

The Ganges Restaurant is a dockyard building that has been converted into a restaurant. It likely dates from the 18th century and has been remodeled in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is made of painted shale rubble, featuring granite sills and lintels, as well as brick arches. The roof is covered with dry Delabole slate and has gable ends. There is a rendered lateral stack at the rear, on the left side. The building is rectangular in shape, consisting of 12 bays and two storeys.

The north-facing front has 12 windows. The first floor is rendered, and the left-hand window opening has been deepened in the 20th century to accommodate a pair of glazed doors. On the ground floor, the right side retains seven round-headed brick arches with granite keys, which were originally open but now most have been fitted with 20th-century bay windows. On the left side, there is a large polygonal 20th-century glazed projection. The first floor features three original 2-light casement windows with 15 panes per light, while the taller windows on the right are 12-pane horned sashes. The interior has not been inspected, but the building has undergone considerable alterations since the Listing Survey in 1960, although some original features remain.
