Cottage building and wall. Circa 1820 and later. Built by Hugh Rowe, a Lostwithiel builder, for the Reverend Jeremiah Trist. Painted render over slatestone and cob with conical wheatreed thatched roof and lateral stack with brick top stage to east. Dry slate roof to wing with brick stack over gable end. Circular room plan plus one room wing, probably later. 2 storeys. Arched entrance doorway to north with original Gothick tympanum. C20 door. Thatched ogee shaped hood. Wing to north and adjoining to left of door has ordered arched doorway, now window, with window over to west front. Road front and west front has ground and first floor arch headed window openings with ornamental stone studded borders. Window opening to north west is C20. All 2-light C20 casements. Turned wooden cross finial over apex of roof. Interior not inspected. Simple outbuilding with scantle slate roof, window and door openings. Serpentine shaped wall to roadside. One of 5 round houses in Veryan all by Hugh Rowe for the Reverend Jeremiah Trist, reputed to be one for each of his 5 daughters. Round plan said to be to deter the activities of the Devil but more likely reason is economy.
