Description

Redlake Cottage is a house that may have origins in the 17th century but was remodeled in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from rubble stone and cob, featuring large granite quoins and a slate roof with gable ends. The building has large projecting stone chimneys on the gable ends, which have 20th-century brick stacks. The rear of the cottage is partly rendered.

The house has a single-depth, two-room layout with a cross-passage plan and a projecting rear wing on the northeast side, covered by a catslide roof, creating an L-shape. It stands two stories tall and has a symmetrical two-window south front. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light centre-hung casements, each with eight panes, positioned under large granite lintels. The central entrance features a four-panelled 19th-century door, topped by a gabled lattice porch from the late 19th or early 20th century, set on a brick base.

On the first floor, there are two 2-light centre-hung casements with glazing bars and chamfered granite jambs, which are likely reused. The windows have timber lintels and granite cills, with the left-hand lintel being chamfered. There is also a lean-to store made of rubblestone on the left-hand gable end. Inside, the room on the right has a fireplace with a chamfered granite lintel and jambs. The interior has not been inspected.
