Description

Burn Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the 17th century, which was refenestrated in the late 19th century. It is constructed of rubblestone and cob, rendered, with an asbestos slate roof featuring gabled ends that are sprocketted at the foot, likely intended for thatch. The left-hand gable end has a large projecting stone stack with a rendered top and two tier drip courses, while the right-hand gable end has a rendered brick stack. The building has been extended to the rear, creating a double depth plan, and was originally probably designed with a two-room layout and a cross-passage.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window front. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light late 19th-century centre hung casements with glazing bars, with six panes on the left and eight panes on the right. The central entrance features a late 19th-century four-panelled door, which is now partly glazed. Above, there are three 2-light casements with glazing bars; two on the left are late 19th century, while the right-hand window is from the 20th century. At the rear, there is an outshut that contains a dairy. The interior has not been inspected.
