Description
St Winnow Mill is a millhouse, now a private dwelling, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of rubblestone with a slate roof featuring gable ends. The building has large projecting stone chimneys with brick stacks at the gable ends. It has a double depth plan that was originally two rooms wide with a through passage. The millhouse is two storeys tall and has a symmetrical three-window east front. The ground floor features a central 19th-century panelled door set in a gabled stone rubble porch, which has a round brick arch in the gable end. This door is flanked by two-light centre-hung wood casements that have contemporary decorative glazing bars banded with two panes. Above the ground floor openings, there are three slightly smaller wood casements of the same pattern. There is a cloam oven projection on the right-hand gable end. The interior has not been inspected. This millhouse served St Winnow Mill, which is located 50 metres to the southeast. The site dates back to 1331, and the present mill was operational until 1940. It is currently in derelict condition but still contains mill stones and some machinery, which are not included in the listing.
