Description
These garages or boat sheds, located 3 meters southwest of Carolina Cellars in Portquin, are possibly remnants of structures once used for boats or fish storage, now repurposed as garages with an enclosed open yard at the front. They are built from stone rubble and feature a scantle slate roof with gable ends, along with a low stone rubble wall at the front that encloses the area in front of the sheds. The open sheds are divided into four bays by cast-iron columns and have a row of brick niches along the rear wall, likely associated with the pilchard fishing industry, similar to the fish cellars in Port Gaverne. The low wall at the front has been partially rebuilt, and the entrance on the south side is a late 20th-century addition. The walls on the lower side serve as a retaining wall for the unspoilt rocky beach of Portquin. The buildings occupy a prominent position along the southeast side of Portquin.
