Description

Quay Cottage is a pair of attached cottages that have been converted into one dwelling, dating from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble and features a slate roof with gable ends, along with rendered brick chimney stacks on the gable ends and a central axial brick stack added in the 20th century.

The cottage has a single depth plan and is built into the side of a hill, with the ground level being higher at the rear. Originally, the left cottage had a two-room layout with a central entrance, while the right cottage had a one-room layout with an entrance on the left.

It stands two storeys high and has a regular three-window front, showcasing original 16-pane hornless sash windows. The ground floor includes a part-glazed 20th-century door to the left in the original window opening, and a 16-pane sash window in the original entrance. There are two additional 16-pane sashes with a plank door between them, all of which are topped with brick segmental arches. The first floor features three 16-pane sashes.

The interior has not been inspected, but Quay Cottage remains largely unaltered and is situated on the north side of the unspoilt cove of Portquin.
