Description
The Wheal Rose Engine House is a disused beam engine house located at Wheal Rose Mine, dating from the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed from granite and killas rubble, featuring granite dressings. The building has brick arches over its openings and brickwork on the upper stages of its chimneys, although it is roofless.
The structure has a rectangular plan with a round chimney at the rear left-hand corner. It stands two storeys high over a basement and retains virtually complete and unaltered elevations. The front wall has a central round-headed doorway above a basement opening. The rear gable end includes a wide cylindrical doorway, spanned by a timber lintel with a relieving arch, and a round-headed window above it. The right-hand wall features two ground floor openings and a central first floor opening, while the left-hand wall has a small doorway and a first floor window opening towards the right. The chimney is notable for its stepped collar between the stages and a similar collar at the top.
There are no surviving wooden floors, roof structure, or machinery within the building.
