Description

The Winding Engine House at Wheal Peevor Mine is a derelict structure likely built in the 1870s, serving as a winding engine house, also known as a "whim," for a former tin mine. It is constructed from uncoursed granite and killas rubble, featuring a bob wall primarily made of granite blocks. The window arches are made of brick, and the chimney has a brick upper stage; the building is currently roofless. The structure has a rectangular plan aligned on an east-west axis, with the bob wall located to the west and the chimney positioned at the southeast corner. It consists of three stages and includes round-headed openings, one of which is a driver's window in the bob wall, although the sides of the bob opening are damaged. The tapered cylindrical chimney lacks cornices and displays three darker bands in the brick stage. This building is part of a striking group of structures on the site.
