Description

Capstan House is an 18th-century round tower made of dry rubble stone, which currently has no roof and features an opening on the north side. This structure was originally used as a capstan for hauling fishing boats up the beach. To the east, there is a slip that has been cut out of the bedrock. The tower was once connected to fish cellars used for pilchard storage to the west, which were later replaced by the Carleon Serpentine Factory. Capstan House fell into disuse in the late 19th century.
