Description
The Methodist Chapel and Schoolroom, built in 1845, features a front courtyard wall and is located in Madron. The building is constructed from coursed granite rubble with granite dressings and has slurried scantle slate roofs, with a hipped roof over the chapel and gable ends over the schoolroom. The chapel is a rectangular, aisle-less structure with a rostrum at the east end and a gallery at the west end, which serves as the entrance.
The exterior presents symmetrical west fronts, with the chapel featuring an elliptically-arched central doorway and two round-headed windows positioned high under the eaves. It has a plinth and rusticated quoins, along with original panelled doors and an iron bootscraper. Above the doors is a spoked fanlight, and the original hornless sashes have traceried heads. The chapel's projecting eaves are complemented by original 24-pane hornless sashes on the right side wall, while the opposite wall has 6-pane replacements from the 20th century. The schoolroom has an original 6-panel door with an overlight, although the flanking windows have been blocked.
Inside the chapel, original features include a gallery supported by Doric columns, box pews, a painted rostrum with turned balusters leading to a round-headed balustrade, and a moulded ceiling cornice. The interior of the schoolroom has not been inspected. The courtyard in front of the chapel is enclosed by a simple coped rubble wall, with the right side formed by the left end of the schoolroom.
