Description
Old Trehyllis Farmhouse is a farmhouse and adjoining barn with a shippon, currently used as a farm building. It likely dates from the 18th century and is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings. The building features a dressed granite stack with a brick chimney located at the right-hand gable end, and it has a grouted scantle slate roof. The farmhouse has a two-room layout with a fuel store or stair turret projection in front of the left-hand room. The barn, which includes a granary over the shippon, is situated on lower ground to the left and has a flight of external steps leading to a first-floor loading doorway at the rear.
The exterior of the farmhouse is two storeys high. The house has a doorway positioned to the left of the middle, with ground and first-floor window openings towards the right and a large outshut projection on the left. The barn features a doorway towards the right, a window on the left (which is obscured by a later shed), a winnowing doorway at the first floor on the left, and a window at the first floor above the doorway. Inside, the first-floor structure has been removed, and there is a 19th-century roof structure. The fireplaces have either been removed or blocked.
