Description
The Trethew and Trethuey monuments are a pair of headstones located about 4 metres north of the aisle of the Church of St Stephen. They date from the early 19th century and are made of granite with slate inscription tablets. One headstone commemorates Richard Trethew, who died in 1818, featuring a granite headstone with a nowy head and a rebated slate inscription tablet that has good lettering. The other headstone is for Betsy Trethuey, who died in 1829, and has a granite headstone with a swept elongated pedimental top. This headstone also features a rebated rectangular slate inscription tablet, adorned with flowers carved in low relief and good lettering. Both monuments were created by Thomas Olver.
