Description

There are two chest tombs located in the churchyard, approximately 5 meters south of the tower of the Church of St. Hermes. These tombs date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century and are made of Delabole slate ledger slabs raised on simple brick and stone plinths. The northern tomb is dedicated to Anthony Trethewy, who died in 1799, his wife who died in 1805, their son Anthony who died in 1801, and their daughter Amy who died in 1804. The southern tomb is for Catherine Trethewy, who died in 1792. These monuments are noted as excellent examples of slate carving from that period.
