Description

The borough boundary stone, dating from around the 18th century, is located to the north of 24 Roughtor Road in Camelford. This granite monolith is rectangular in shape with a rounded top and is inscribed with "C B B" to indicate the boundaries of Camelford Borough. Similar boundary stones can be found to the north of Beech House, Lane End, along the A39, 30 meters to the northeast of the sewage works in Camelford, and to the west of No. 2 Manor Farm on Victoria Road. The Charter of Camelford was confirmed in 1259, and the borough was created in 1552 to support the Earl of Northumberland's government, but it was abolished in 1831. Information was provided by Mr. F.C. Smeeth.
