Description

GWENNAP SW 74 SW 4/104 Eldons Engine House - (Ivey House) at SW 748415 SW GV II Beam engine house ruin. Circa early C19. Killas and granite rubble, and granite jambstones, and coursed dressed granite to bob wall. Timber lintels. 1-brick arch(west) and brick upper stage to chimney. Rectangular single-cell plan with round chimney clasping south west corner. Thickerbob wall to east. Originally 3 storeys and survives to top of first floor level except vestiges of second floor walling attached to chimney. West wall has round-headed brick-arched opening to ground floor and over. Bob wall (east) survives to original height of stone walling; originally framed and weather boarded to second floor and gable. Ground floor opening only. Tapered rubble chimney to height of projecting granite ovolo-moulded collar with brick stage of reduced width over. This beam engine house is an important early example which was repaired as a ruin in 1985.
