Description
Empacombe House is a house that likely dates back to the early 18th century, with a front facade from around 1800 and mid-19th century and later alterations. The building is constructed of rendered rubble and has a slate roof, featuring eaves that return with small hips around the gable ends. There are hipped roofs on the single-storey wings. The house has a double depth plan with the entrance located to the right of center, between two front rooms, the left room being larger. Service rooms are located at the rear, along with a stair tower positioned to the rear left of center. There are single-storey wings that project to the rear on both the right and left sides. The house is two storeys tall and has four windows, each with sixteen-pane sashes. A modern porch and door are present at the entrance. The roof has a bell cast design with a gable end stack on the right side, and there are three hipped dormers with four-pane sashes. Each wing has one sash window and hipped roofs. The rear stair turret features early 18th century sashes, and there is a 19th century service wing. A pump dated 1681 is located at the back door. The interior has not been seen but is reported to have stone paving and a straight wooden stair.
