Description

Cross Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse located in Launcells. It is built of colourwashed rendered cob on a stone plinth and features a thatched roof, which has been partly rethatched with Dutch water reed and has a half-hipped design at the right end. The farmhouse has a projecting left gable end stack with a brick chimney and an additional brick chimney on the ridge.

The layout consists of a single depth, three-room plan with direct entry into the central room. The left end of the building may be an addition, indicated by a change in the wall plane and eaves level, as well as a former external wall between the ground floor room on the left and the central room. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an off-centre, enclosed porch with a sloping slate roof and a six-plank door. There is a second entrance to the left of the front, which features a 20th-century door.

On the ground floor, there is one two-light timber casement window with six panes per light on the left, which replaced a former door and was inserted in the 20th century. A similar casement window is located to the left of the porch, and there is a four-pane timber opening to the right of the porch. The rear of the farmhouse has three similar casement windows and four 20th-century buttresses. Inside, the central room has a partially blocked large fireplace, and the roof timbers are said to be pegged.
