Description

Tumbles Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century to the 18th century, consisting of two builds with alterations made in the late 20th century. The cottage is constructed of whitewashed rendered cob and features a thatched roof, which is gabled at the right end and hipped at the left, with a rendered chimney located on the ridge at the junction of the two builds. It has a single depth plan and is two stories high.

The front of the cottage includes a large projecting thatched entrance porch to the left, along with a large entrance hall. There is an additional entrance at the higher end of the building. Some openings have been enlarged, including a late 20th century bow window on the ground floor to the right. Other ground floor windows are late 20th century timber casements with glazing bars that open horizontally. The thatch is eyebrowed over four similar first floor windows, and there are three eyebrowed first floor rear windows facing the street. The rear window at the higher end has an enlarged opening and a casement similar to the first floor front windows, while the other first floor rear windows are two-light timber casements with four panes per light.

On the ground floor, the rear window at the higher end is a two-light timber casement with four panes per light, and the ground floor rear window at the lower end is a fixed light window with four panes. The ground floor room at the lower end features a large fireplace with a chamfered fireplace beam that has step stops, along with large ceiling beams. The ground floor room at the higher end includes a massive cross beam, and the upstairs rooms have pegged roof timbers.
