Description
This group of cottages dates probably from the 19th century. They are constructed of slatestone rubble, with one cottage painted and another rendered, and have slate and scantle slate roofs. The cottages are built into a hillside and have a mix of hip and gable roofs, with brick chimneys. The plans are of either two or one room width, with some cottages having double-depth construction.
Cove Cottage, which has a basement and adjoins The Cottage via a rear lean-to, has a three-window south front featuring tall 24-pane sash windows and a central door. It also has an external stack to the east. The other cottages have two-window north fronts with side entrances. The cottage to the west appears to have been altered and may have originally been a non-domestic building. A small outbuilding to the north has a scantle slate roof and a brick chimney. The ground-floor openings of the cottages are framed by shallow brick arches. The interior of the cottages was not inspected. The building approximately 5 metres north of Bay Cottage is also included in the listing. The group is listed for its group value.
