Description

Blue House comprises two lime kilns, probably dating to the 18th century, and adjoining cottages built in the early to mid-19th century. The building is constructed of slatestone rubble with roofs of grouted scantle slate, featuring brick chimneys on the gable ends. The cottages have one or two rooms each. The lime kilns are built directly into the hillside.

The south-facing street front features a two-window cottage to the left, which may have been partly converted from a kiln. It has four-pane sash windows and an entrance at one end. Behind and to the sides of this cottage are pairs of semi-circular vaults, used for raking out lime. A three-window cottage stands to the right, with a 20th-century shop window with 18 panes on the ground floor to the left. A central 20th-century door with a glazed overlight sits between the second and third windows, flanked by 12-paned sash windows, all with cambered brick arches. The interior spaces have not been inspected.

A well is located at the rear. The property is included on the list for group value, acknowledging the overall significance of the collection of listed buildings.
