Description

The farmhouse is probably of mid-to-late 17th century origin, with subsequent additions and alterations. It is built of roughly coursed slate-stone, with cob to the rear, and has a slate roof. The building follows a 4-unit central through-passage plan, with a later outbuilding attached to the left. The house is divided into two sections, with a 2-storey catslide outshut to the front of the right part. The front elevation features two 18th-century casement windows with L-hinges directly below the eaves; one to the ground floor on the left of the left part and one on each floor to the right of the right section. A top-hung casement is also positioned directly below the eaves to the left of the right part. Ground-floor windows are each set beneath a wooden lintel. A boarded door, sheltered by a lean-to hood, is situated to the right of the left part, in the angle with the right section. A red brick ridge stack is directly to the right of the door, and an integral end stack with a red brick shaft is present to the left. The outbuilding attached to the left gable end has a wide double door on the far right and a plank door to the left. A single-storey lean-to dairy is located to the rear on the right of the house. The interior of the house was not accessible during a resurvey in January 1988, but is likely to be of interest. The outbuilding has a collar truss roof in four bays.
