Farmhouse. Circa late C16, probably with earlier origins, extended in circa early C17. Stone rubble. Slate roof with gable ends and at least one early crested ridge tile. Stone rubble axial stack and brick shafts to end stacks. Plan: Original plan uncertain. Probably 2 room and through passage plan heated by end stacks with larger room on left. Extended in circa early C17 by addition of wing of one or two room plan, to front left, with fireplace in end wall. Service outshut added at rear in C18 and C19. In the circa early C19 the larger left hand room was remodelled; the passage and the right hand side of the left hand room being partially divided to form a dairy with a passage running across the front of the house to provide access into the left hand room. In the C19 the front left hand wing was converted into a barn and the front wall was partly rebuilt. In the later C20 this wing reverted back to domestic use. Exterior: Two storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front to main range with C20 door. C19 casement windows have 4-centred arched headed lights within the square headed frames. 2-light casement to left and 3-light casement to right with three 2-light casements on first floor. In the left hand wing, are C20 glazed double doors in the wide C19 barn door opening with two 2-light casements on first floor. Interior: Through passage altered although front and rear door openings retained. The cross wall on the right hand side continues up to first floor with a thinner wall above continuing up to the apex. The right hand room has one heavy unchamfered cross beam and one chamfered cross beam with stepped stops. C20 fireplace. The floor joists are covered by the plaster ceiling. The partition on the left hand side of the passage has been removed. C19 dairy occupies central room and left hand room has an end stack with remodelled C20 fireplace. Closely set heavy unmoulded floor joists. The front left hand wing has been re-floored but it retains a C17 chamfered timber lintel to the fireplace and a cloam oven. Roof Structure: Roof structure to left hand wing replaced in C20. Roof structure above right hand room of main range replaced in C18 or early C19. Roof structure above passage and left hand room of C17 has the principals morticed at the apices and the collars halved, lap-jointed and pegged onto the principals forming almost flush joints. At least one purlin appears soot blackened although restricted access prevented a closer inspection. However, it would appear that this C17 roof probably reuses timber from an earlier roof.
